Perfect for walkers, families, nature-lovers, bird-watchers and those in search of a little peace and quiet, Dun a Rí has 4 marked walking trails of approximately 1.5km – 2km in length, all with different points of interest. The Wishing Well, Cromwell’s Bridge, Cabra Cottage – originally the residence of the Pratt Family, the Flax Mill, Lady’s Lake and an old Ice House can all be seen. All these features are signposted throughout the park. The views from the park are beautiful and on a fine day it is possible to see Slieve Gullion in County Armagh and the Mountains of Mourne.
Families with children will enjoy the park as one of the trails is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Bird-watchers and nature-lovers will enjoy the rich diversity of flora and fauna and will see hazel, holly and elderberry. In the undergrowth, herb-robert, foxglove, ferns, bluebells and snowdrops thrive in season. Red and grey squirrels are common, as are stoats, rabbits and the pigmy shrew. Mink flourish along the river and otters have been spotted. The Irish hare is also a resident. The park is fabulously tranquil and a sense of peace prevails throughout. Car parking is available.
