There are a variety of marked walk ways and cycle trails of varying difficulty, with stunning, panoramic views. There are a number of prehistoric and early Christian sites throughout the glen and guided walks can be booked locally. An alternative way to explore the mountains is on horseback, the Hillcrest Riding Centre in nearby Galbally gives riding lessons and treks for riders of all levels of ability.
The tributaries of the River Suir flow through The Glen of Aherlow and offer excellent trout and perch fishing. Should you tire of exploring the surrounding countryside, you can relax in a game of golf at one of the local golf courses such as Tipperary Golf Club or Cahir Park Golf Club. Alternatively enjoy a day at the races at the nearby Tipperary race course.
The Glen is bounded by the rural villages of Bansha and Galbally, both of which have some lovely traditional pubs which give a real taste of friendly, rural Ireland. The area’s main town is Tipperary, which has plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs which often have traditional music sessions.
